The incredible city of Barcelona has many great attractions that you should try and fit into your visit. Plan your trip well, and pack in as much or as little as you can, but remember, many of Barcelona's most memorable attractions are the people that you meet, and the hidden treasures that you discover for yourself. Enjoy!
Sagrada Familia Church
Designed by the architect Antonio Gaudi as a piece of symbolic architecture intended to celebrate the city of Barcelona and to encapsulate the story of Christianity in stone, this stunning building will take more than 100 years to build, and as testament to both the ambition and vision of the genius of Gaudi himself and resilience of the Catalan people, the church (which is not a cathedral) is already recognised by UNESCO as one of the most important structures on earth.
Ciutat Vella
The old city of Barcelona dates back as far as Roman times, and the many remains from this era are clearly apparent as you explore. With some great shops to browse through, and plenty of pleasant cafes in which to enjoy a snack, the Ciutat Vella is a great place to spend half a day, and is within a short distance of many of the most popular hotels in Barcelona.
Tibidabo
This hill that overlooks the city is a marvellous place to get some fresh air and enjoy a cool breeze on a hot day. Aside from the famous amusement park, attractions to enjoy on a trip to Tibidabo include the monumental church with its mosaics and the Torre del Collserola, a communications tower designed by Norman Foster that features an observation platform for views of Barcelona. Tibidabo is a short drive from the city centre, and is easily reached - especially if you have arranged car hire in Barcelona.
Montjuïc
Another hill overlooking the city of Barcelona, Montjuic lies at the centre of the area used in the 1992 Summer Olympics, and aside from the many sporting facilities nearby, attractions include the cable car ride to the summit, and the Mossèn Costa i Llobera gardens which boast a world class collection of cacti.
La Ramblas
One of Europe's most famous streets, La Ramblas runs from the centre of Barcelona through to the harbour front statue of Christopher Columbus. Lined with street performers during the day, and home to some of Barcelona's best bars and clubs when the sun goes down, La Ramblas is the heart of the city, and a place to shop, relax, and meet people at any time of the day.
