Barcelona | Shopping in Barcelona - guide by Barcelona-Tourist.co.uk

Barcelona's reputation as one of the best shopping cities in Europe is well deserved. There are several different areas for shoppers to explore, and a short break in Barcelona offers you the chance to buy pretty much anything you can imagine.

La Ramblas
The heart of the city, La Ramblas is a long street that connects Place de Catalunya with the harbour, and is home to many smaller shops. Ranging from designer boutiques to discount outlets, it is a popular place to browse and within walking distance of many of the best known Barcelona hotels, largely because the profusion of bars and cafes offer plenty of alternatives to shopping.

Paseo de Gracia
Famous for its designer boutiques and clothing stores, Paseo de Gracia is also the home of two of Antonio Gaudi's best known buildings - Casa Batllo and Casa Mila.

La Boqueria
This large food market is one of the best places to meet the locals. Enjoy the sights and smells of one of Spain's most traditional markets, and try the local specialities fresh from the stalls.

El Corte Engles
This large department store on Place de Catalunya is Barcelona's answer to Harrods in London. Home to famous designer names, and one of the best food halls in the city, you could easily spend half a day exploring the store, and it gets very busy during the annual sales.

Opening Hours
Shops in Barcelona tend to open early - from about 8 in the morning, and then close for a couple of hours at around half past eleven for siesta. They re-open in the early afternoon through until late in the evening so you can mix shopping and socialising.
